Since the start of 2014 I’ve been teaching part-time at Browne School of Art on Great North Rd, in Auckland City. If you’ve ever wanted to start from scratch and learn the basics, or further develop your current practice, we’re holding an Open Day on Sunday 11 October from 2–5pm, where you can find out all about the classes that are on offer, and meet some of the staff.

Browne School of Art is a great little venue that offers a wide range of part-time art classes, providing the opportunity to work alongside some of Auckland’s most experienced art practitioners and teachers.

Year long part-time courses, term time day and evening courses, and weekend workshops are all available. Enrol yourself and/or help to spread the word about this new Auckland initiative founded by painter and tutor Matthew Browne.

Book now for my term four classes:

Contemporary Drawing

Contemporary Drawing is a Tuesday evening class running from 6.15–9.15pm. I teach an innovative, experimental approach to abstract mark making and expression using a range of unexpected drawing tools and surfaces, and working on both a micro and a monumental scale. Weeks 1–5 begin with a series of class exercises responding to a range of external stimuli such as sound and body. As students develop confidence in their creativity we move towards a more self-directed project. No experience necessary.

The Great Weekend Draw

Nov 21/22 10am–4pm

This intensive two-day drawing workshop is for students with some previous experience, lots of energy and a keen desire to explore and experiment. We will begin with a series of group exercises designed to build upon and develop your knowledge about different types of media and working surfaces, and will gradually progress to working on larger-scale, more self-directed projects.
